Integers Scribe. October 20. 2008

Monday, October 20, 2008

Today in the class we have a new unit. Which is Integers. Last year we were doing Integers adding and subtracting. This year we are doing Dividing and multiplying. But today were doing the review of adding and subtracting. Here are some reviews on subtracting and adding.

Example of Integers:
- Positive and negative Integers
- Positive example: 1 (more than 0)
- Negative example: -1 (less than 0)

Pictorial Integers:
-Algebra Tiles

- Its like we did with those bingo chips last year, but its square.

- Thinking Money:
+ Integers (have)
- Integers (owe)
- (+5) + (-3) = +2 (You have 5 and you owe 3 = $2)
- (-3) + (+6) = +3 (You owe 3 but you gain 6 = $3)
A Number Line:

- Without the Brakets:

(+6) + (-5) = 1
Into
6 - 5=1 (grade 2 MATH!!)

- HomeWork:
Mr.HerBeck gave us an Integer Sheet and the Homeworks are Page 39 - 50.

:Part A: Indicate whether each would result in a poitive or negative.
1. Spending $27

sense your spending $27, your subtracting. (Negative)

2. Falling off a ladder

Your going down the ladder/fallen off, your subtracting. (negative)

:Part C: Graph each of the following on the give line (Ordering)

1. -6, +5, -4, +2, 0 (-6,-4,0,+2,+5)

2 -6, +5, -4, +2, -1 ( -6, -4, -1, +2 , +5)

:Part E: Place a greater than sign (>) or a less sign (<) between each set of integers to make each statement correct.
1. +5 < +8

2. -5 < -2

:Part G: Write out the set of integers described in each.
1. The integers greater than 0 but less than +5: 1, 2, 3 , 4 (Those are between 0 and +5)
2. The integers greater than -4 but less than +6: -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

:Part H: State the additive inverse for each of the following.
Additive inverse: ARE ZERO PAIRS!!

1.(+14) Additive Inverse is (-14) = ZERO PAIR
2.(-16) Additive Inverse is (+16) = ZERO PAIR

Those are all the things we did last class.

I pick Robin to be Scribe next class.
