Probability Scribe for October 9 2008

Thursday, October 9, 2008
In class today we did a Gumball Machine worksheet on probability. In the duration of the period, each table was given a cup and 10 coloured blocks; 1 red, 2 green, 3 yellow, and 4 blue. We were sopposed to randomly select cubes/gumballs and record the information using tallys. This excersize was used to experiment with probabilty. We continued choosing cubes/gumballs until we had 100 tallied.

On the back on the worksheet, we were told to label the scale of probability. It should look simiular to the illustration below. My apoligies if the illustration isn't up to standards.

We also discussed the meanings of Experimental Probability and Theoretical Probability.
Expirimental Probability is the ratio of favourable outcomes to the number of experiments. It is what actually happens when you experiment.
Theoretical Probability is the ratio of favourable outcomes to the number of total possible outcomes (TPO's). It is what is expected to happen.
Here is a video on Probablity.

Noticed something else (yeah you're probably tired of hearing comments from me) but you forgot to put probability in your tags.
