Skills : Fractions

In math class, we learned about different kinds of fractions and how to compare them. Mr. Harbeck asked us to compare fractions and gave us questions where you determine which fraction is >,< or =".">,< or =" in" style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">

Decimal:

2/3 = 0.666 (repeating) 4/6 = 0.666 (repeating)
So, 2/3 and 4/6 is equal because it's the same.

* To find out the decimal you have to divide the numerator by the denominator.

Picture:

2/3 and 4/6 may be equal but they are not the same. Let's say you and your friend found a whole pizza in your house. You cut the pie into 3 pieces, 1 for you, 1 for your friend and an extra 1. Then suddenly 2 more people come and asked for pizza so you cut the pizza in 6 and not 3 pieces. Suddenly, your mom comes home and asks how come 2/3 of the pizza is gone? You say 4/6 of the pizza is gone and not 2/3 because 4/6 is more precise. You cut the pizza in more pieces and took more for 4 people.

Another example is 1/4 and 1/8. Are they >,< or ="?" style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">Decimal:

1/4 -----> 0.25
1/8 -----> 0.125

So 1/4 is larger than 1/8.

Picture:

1/4 is greater than 1/8.Both fractions have 1 as the numerator, fractions with 1 as a numerator are called unit fractions, and different denominators. This one is easier because the numerators are the same and it is larger when it has a smaller denominator. 1/4 is greater than 1/8. (:

    Nice Post! It must of took long making the pictures. I love your cutting into pizza idea. It really made sense to me after you started involving pizza. :p
    Now I know what you do in skills.. Thanks to your post.
    I think you made some mistakes with grammar and spelling. Like you made the first sentence in the second paragraph say 2/3 instead of using words, but it's okay that was your only mistake. I think..
    Great Job! ♥
