Algebra Scribe Post for January 21, 2009

Wednesday, January 21, 2009
Hello people! I am the scribe yet again on this fabulous Tuesday! Today in the class of mathematics (math class) we were in Mr. Penner's room because it's day 6 and we do that from now on. Anyway, we went over one question that somebody had problems with. Then we worked on our *trumpet fanfare* Multi-Coloured Book (which is shown below)!

We wrote quite a bit on it so listen carefully. On the bottom left corner (the one that says two step on it) we opened it to the second flap. This is the flap right after the additive type questions (which is blue on all of them I believe). We wrote the following questions on it which must be answered and verified: 7x-2=61 and -8t-23=-15. Next, we went to the exact same flap but this time we went to the other side which is the second flap of the bottom right! On this one we wrote: 2x-4=6 and -3x-1=-7 which must be done in algebra tiles. There is a picture below of what must be done (just click it to enlarge it).

Once we finished the subtractive examples we moved on to multiplication. We wrote the questions 3n+8=20 and -n-4=2 on the left side and the questions -2n=4=-2 and 3n+4=7 on the right side. There's a picture below of it all. Remember, just click to enlarge. ;)

Finally, we moved on to division! We only did stuff on the left side so don't write on the right side!!! We did many questions and all of them were completed in class. If you don't have them then they're below for you to copy.

Also, if you run out of room then go to the next page but stay on the lefternmost flap (the one to the farthest left). This is what it looks like:

Alright, now I will explain in detail how to do a two step divisive type algebraic equation (what a mouthful!). It's all explained in the picture below so have fun! Or at least try to...

There you go. Also, if you still don't understand any/some algebra then talk to Mr. H or ask somebody who does know. You could also ask me :)
For homework we need to complete page 43 and do page 44 of our lavender booklets.
Also, we have a Test on Friday, January 23, 2009!!! It's just 10 questions from our homework.
There you have it! Today's class in a (rather large) nutshell! Also, I pick Jai to do tomorrow's scribe!

NICKY! Good job with this scribe post! REALLY GOOD. .. You're the first person I saw with those kind of pictures and explaintions! I like it a lot! It was pretty smart of you just to take a picture of the barn doors book, I bet it was so much easier! I like how you added the story too ^o). Kind of creative of you. Just shows how much you think and concentrate while you do your scribes. Great great great work Nicky!
