In skills class, Mr. Harbeck asked us to create a post about Fraction. You guys might remember these fractions because they were for homework. So for our homework we had to explain if they were =<> (equal,greater than and less than) the fraction pairs we are dealing with are 2/3 and 4/6. And we also had 1/8 and 1/4. So lets start with 2/3 and 4/6 is it greater than, less than equal to? Well if you divide 2 by 3 you get: o.6 repeating then 4 by 6 you get:0.6 repeating so as you can see here, they are both the same. But lets look at it from another standpoint, lets see what it looks like in pictures :

I would say 4/6 is more precise.
Now we'll look at 1/8 and 1/4

So as we can see, 1/4 is bigger than 1/8.
Okay now if we divide it 1 by 4 =0.25
then 1 by 8=0.125
so as we can see here 1/8 is bigger, but which is more precise?

Hi my name is Camille and I will be your teacher for today! Most of you already know what I'm going to be talking about but to some of you this is NEW information. So if okay so Lets start!
This week we have been learning about the Pythagoras Theorem . We have been given an assignment to help our teacher Mr. Harbeck, remember what he was suppose to teach us.The assignment involves us to understand 4 pictures. But I'll get to that a little bit later. We were also given a list of vocabulary words here they are :
Legs- shorter than the hypotenuse , comes out of the right angle, so each right triangle always has 2 legs.
Hypotenuse- is the largest leg in a right angle, triangle and is always opposite to the right angle.
R.A.T- the word R.A.T is a shorter way of saying right angle triangle.
Greek- some one who has the ethnic background of Greece. or a native or inhabitant of Greece.
Theorem- it is a idea that has been proven true.
This is the artifacts one is a Greek man called Pythagoras, a square, a right angled triangle and a2+b2=c2.
First we will be discussing the right angled triangle or also known as R.A.T.
Here is what a right angled triangle looks like:
A right angled triangle has 3 sides: side A which is the long side on the left and side B which is just under the box also know as 90. then their is side C which is also referred to as the Hypotenuse. The Hypotenuse or C is always the longest side on a R.A.T
Here is a square:
A square has four equal sides. All 90•.
Another artifact that was found was a formula related to the Right Angle Triangle, that Pythagoras mad. It looks like this :

Problem 1 This diagram shows the game plans for a game designed by Harbeck Toys INC. The board is made up of a square and four identical right triangles.
If the central square has an area of 225 square centimeters what is the perimeter of the board game? To answer this question we first need to write what were already know:
we know that 225 cm2 is the area of the square and that all the legs are even.
So first we find out what the square root is for 225 cm is.
it equals to 15cm
So now we know all of the legs or sides equal to 15cm.
Now we need to solve for the Hypotenuse: so we use the Pythagoras therm which we were talking about before.
a2+b2=c2
so if we were to put in the numbers it would look like this:
(15x15)+(15x15)=c2
225+225=c2
450=c2
450 square root is 21.213
(15x4)+(21.213x4)
60+84.852=144.852cm
Word Problem 2
A) The square's diagonal is 4.2 cm.
each square is 3x3 so we use a2+b2=c2
3(squared) + 3(squared) = C2
9+9=c2
18=c2
18[square root] = 4.2 cm
b) the length of the hypotenuse is
the square has 64 squares, 64 divided by 4(sides) is 16
so the square is 16x16, from there we use a2+b2=c2
16(squared)+16(squared)=c2
256+256=c2
512=c2
(square root 512)
22.627 = c

Today in class we went over the homework that was assigned yesterday. Here are a few of the questions that are answered.
n/ -5 = 15
-5n/-5 = 15(-5)
n = -75

what if the N was negative???!!
don't sweat! Ill show you how to figure it out ! ^_^
So Mr. Harbeck told us we can NOT have a negative N, so we have to change it right.
here is the question:
-n/5 =15
-n=75
(5) -n/-5= 15 (5)
NOTE: YOU CANT HAVE A NEGATIVE N!
so what do we? add a negative one to both sides. Like this.
(1) -n =75 (-1)
n=-75
Mr Harbeck asked me to show you how to divide with fractions.
Okay so here's the question :

so we all know that n= +1 or 1 right. so just re-write the question to look like this:
n/6=12
so now it way easy! okay now let's solve it!

Winter break project! (Pay it forward)
Pay it forward
Over the winter break we were asked by our teachers to " pay it forward". Which means to do a random act of kindness and not ask for anything in return. So I did my brothers chores, and visited my Nana ( grandma). I also helped re- do my basement over the break . In the next few paragraphs I will explain how I did this!
So first I shoveled my 2 walk ways. I wore a hat, mittens, and a heavy jacket because it was really cold out. The first time I shoveled my sister helped me, because it wasn't that cold out. But the second time I shoveled was today and it was really cold out. But I didn't care because I was helping my brother out by shoveling for him. And I was also helping the mail woman because she can't deliver our mail if the our path has snow all over it! So here is a picture of me shoveling.
I also helped my parents with our basement. First I helped sand the walls in basement. Then we needed to clean up all the dust down there and vacuum everything. After that my sister and I had to clean all the walls with warm soapy water. That really hurt my arms . The next day we were ready to paint. I don't really know how to paint, so I only did some painting in my basement . After we painted , there was MORE cleaning! I had to crawl on the floor on a towel and clean up any paint that fell with a rag. Gross ! Sorry I don't have a picture of me doing this!
One day after I was done cleaning down stairs. I thought of my Nana and I thought she would like it if I would bake her cookies on a cold day. So my sister and I made her some oatmeal and pecan cookies. After they were made I phoned my Nana and asked her if it was okay if I could bring her something. And that it was a surprise! I packed the warm cookies in a container and my sister and I walked over there. She asked us to come in and talk. So we did, she told me how happy she was for thinking of her and that she loved me. Which is normal because she's my grandma. When we came home I felt really happy because all I could think of was that my Nana was happy because I thought of her. And that I did something nice for another person. Even if it was my grandma and not a stranger.
For my last act of kindness I volunteered to serve lunch for other people. The people I served were ones I know from my religion taking a 2 week course . So they weren't complete strangers :) Any ways when I got there I helped prepare the plates of food for the lunch. By the way we had Greek food it was really good! ^^. When the people came out , the other severs and myself would ask them if they would like any thing to drink or if they were enjoying the meal. This was a lot of fun because I got to catch up with a few friends that I haven't talk to in awhile. And when they were done eating they clapped for us, because we did a job on the food! Which was nice because they really appreciated the meal and the kind act. Over all it was really fun. Behind me is the place I severed at.
I really liked this project it was a lot of fun! :) I liked how it made us think of others before ourselves and it makes the world a little bit better. And like Mr. Harbeck says their are a lot of us grade 8 kids . So just imagine if we all help 3 people or even if we only helped 1 it still makes a difference. And it makes us happy because we made someone smile! Maybe this wasn't or first choice to do a random act of kindness over the holidays but I know I feel really happy for doing this. So thanks to all the teachers for assigning this project! And I hope everyone had a good break! <3

Camille okay lets try an easy question: n+3-5n+12. What do u think the answer is?
Alex: Well... ummm... (PAUSE) It might be -6n+15? Right?
Camille: how did you get that?
Alex: Well I know that n by itself means one so
I put all the n's together and -5n + n = - 6n. At least I think it does?
Camille: Well I got -4n +15 because the n is a positive
Alex: How is it positive?
Camille: Because it has no sign in front of it. So automatically makes it a positive number! So when you add a negative and positive together you have to have zero pairs, so 1-5 equals -4n.
okay! :)
Alex: okay I guess that makes sense.
Camille: Then my work here is done!
Alex: No I still don't get it just one more question okay ?
Camille: oh alright. 2 + 4(3n+8)
Alex: Okay I can do this : its 12n + 10.
Camille: Not exactly,
Camille: okay here are the steps I took : first multiply 4 by 3n then 4 by 8.
Alex: okay
Camille: so 4 multiplied by 3n is?
Alex: oh that's easy 12n!
Camille: then 4 multiplied by 8 is?
Alex: 32! :)
Camille:Right! so your first step would look like this: 4 x 3n / 4 x 8 okay then
you would have 12n + 32 then you would have to bring down the +2
Alex: okay then would you add the +2 to the 32?
Camille: Yeah so your answer would be...?
Alex: 12n + 34!!! :)

Hello my class mates! :)
Well today in class we had a integer quiz then Mr. Harbeck gave us a new book that is green! And he put on the smart board in BIG letters, STANDARD FORM! aka NO MORE TRAINING PANTS!
He explained that in standard form we combine integers or " put them all into one basket" .
we were asked to do the first 3 questions on the new green book : 6+8= , -4-3=, 15-2=

But wait what is missing AND! no more and ! Mr. H told us to look at the question like this :

Ninja's always win?
Once apon a time in an anime world, Jane and Rosie were hanging out after school. They saw a $100.00 dollar bill on the ground. Jane quickly picked it up, turned, and looked at Rosie. They both excitedly said " Shopping!" . But all of the sudden, they were in Tom's room, one of there classmates. Tom thinks to himself "Why are they in my room?" And Tom looks over at his pillow and notices an envelope with the title "Top secret" Tom say aloud. "What does it say?" asked Rosie very excited. " (-4) + (-5) =. Then it goes quiet, "-9" yells Rosie. "Right?" Tom doing the math in his head says "yeah I think your right" Jane now sitting on Tom's bed confused just looks at them. Then a magical thing started to happen the room started to shake and all at once they were in a forest filled with flowers everywhere trees hunreds of years old. All of them scared not knowing where they are, hear a nosie coming from the deepest most darkest part of the forest. Jane whispers to Tom in fear " what is that nosie?" Tom replies trembling "I don't know?" . And then a Ninja pops out of nowhere and says "yes you are correct the answer is -9" "whew" the three teenages say relieved. Then Rosie askes " Do you have anything to do with this?" "with what?" the Ninja replys " with the fact that we're lost in the forest or that Jane and I were tella whatever into Tom's bedroom?" Tella whatever?, oh you mean tellaported then yes and if you ever want to go home you will do as I say and follow or play by my rules." said the Ninja very sneaky like. " what do you mean play by your rules or else we don't go home?" Tom said angerly. "well, you are in my world now if you want I can take you anywhere and you will be under my control, you can't leave my world untill you finish all of the integer questions." "WHAT!" said the three teenages now all mad. " The Ninja thinks to himself " I think it's time for me to go" and just like that the Ninja was gone. Jane, Tom, and Rosie still very angry and confused see a huge money bag sitting in front of them and thought" what is with this Ninja is he good or bad? " But when they opened it all they saw was this
Jane thought they were crackes but they didn't taste like a cracker. " Take that out of your mouth, there integers chips." Tom exclaimed. Rosie picked up the note that was attached to it and read it aloud : "use these integer chips to solve your this question, (+3) + (-5)=. So as Rosie was reading it Tom made a picture that looked like this: 
Jane said "there's -2 left over does that mean it's -2 ?" Then all at once Jane, Tom, and Rosie were on a beach and the Ninja came to meet them once again and this time he gave them a question himself " (+3) + (+7) =. use a number line to explain this one" and again he was gone like that. So Rosie drew a number line in the sand and it looked like this : 
Rosie said "the answer is +10". And once again they were in another place. But this time they were on an old almost broken, unstable bridge over a volcano! And again the Ninja came and said "this is your last adding integer question, then you can go home, (+10) + (-10)=. oh, and this time use money you know I have and I owe" Rosie said "I have $11.00" and Tom said "and you owe me $10.00" "Oh, I know this one" said Jane upon saying that the bridge broke and the three teenagers started to fall heading right for the molton lava. Jane screamed "POSITIVE 1!!" ........
