Great Big Book: Chapter 2 Combining like terms and Distributive Property

Julia: What are you working on?
David: I'm trying to figure out these algebra questions I think I`ve got the answers.
Julia: Well then, let me check.
David: Fine, the first question is n+3-5n+12. My answer is -6n+15.
Julia: Well, I think your wrong, I think the answer is -4n+15
David: Really! How`d you get that?
Julia: Well first you have to use the distributive property like this: n+3-5n+12, n-5n+3+12, then you combine like terms like this: n-5n+3+12, -4n+15
David: Thanks Julia. The second question is: 2 + 4(3n+8), I got 12n + 10.
Julia: Well David, I guess you didn't listen in math class, because I think you're wrong again.
David: What do you mean? Show me.
Julia: Well first you do the you combine like terms like this 2+4(3n+8), 6(3n+8) then you get rid of the brackets by multiplying both the terms inside the brackets by six so you get 18n+48.
David: Wow thanks Julia, oh and nice uniform Julia.

Today we worked a bit more on our pink algebra sheet and we have 48 Questions from section C and section I for homework so i`ll do a few of the harder ones and some simpler ones.
C.1.A number. This question was really easy all you have to do is pick a letter, I picked N.
2.A number doubled. N stands for a number and then 2 for the double so the answer is N2.
3.The square of a number. This one was a little harder but once again the number is N and to square it you put a little two above and to the right of it so the answer is N2 (sorry but I cant do exponents on the computer).
12.A number is less than seven. I put is less than in italics because less than is subtraction but if you put is in front of it it ends up being this <. So a number is N is less than is < and seven is 7 so the answer is N<7.
23.A number tripled is greater than thirty-seven. Is greater than is in italics for the same reason as is less than greater than is addition and is greater than is >. A number is once again N tribled is 3 is greater than is > and thirty-seven is 37 so the answer is N3>37.
24.Three consecutive numbers. This question is pretty hard but you have to have a number N then another number that is 1 greater than it and then another number that is 1 greater than that and you separate them by commas and since you don't know the number it ends up like this N,N+1,N+2.
I.15.If a number is squared, the result is forty-nine. In this question we once again use exponents so its a number N squared 2 (above an to the right of the N) and the result is forty-nine is =49 so the answer is N2=49.
20.Four times a number squared is equal to the number doubled. this is a long question but all you have to do is four times a number squared which is 4N2 is equal to = the number doubled or N2 so the answer is 4N2=N2.
22.The product of two consecutive numbers is fifty-six. So we have two consecutive numbers multiplying so its NN+1 is + fifty-six 56 so the answer is NN+1=56.
24.Nine times a number plus the number quadrupled is zero. Nine times a number is 9N plus the number quadrupled is +N4= zero or 0 so the answer is 9N+N4=0.
So these are all the questions I picked I'm sorry I was late I will be on time with my next scribe for sure.

The Integer Killer
Its a cold Canadian winter night a scream echoes through the streets of Winnipeg."so wheres the body?" "Its right over here." My name is Tanner Goodwin I work at the Winnipeg police department in the crime scene investigation unit. Right now I'm working on the murder case of a young homeless girl on portage and main but so far the only clue is an integer question and a message written in blood. the question isn't to complex it is (-9)+(+41)=? the message says " solve the question and the answer will lead you to your next clue on Arlington st. So I solved the problem it was easy (-9)+(+41)=+38.
So I told the team where I was going and I moved onto the next clue at 38 Arlington st. when I arrived I noticed that the building was not a house but a warehouse so I walked in the front door and turned on the light and saw another dead body with another note and another question written in blood. the note was the same as before but stated that the next clue was on oxford street so I solved the question this one was a little harder (-51)+(+14)+(+51) but then I noticed that there was a zero pair so I easily solved the question called the team in and headed of to 14 oxford st.
When I got there I noticed that this one was a church so I went into the church and Inside the confession booth was yet another body and yet another question and note written in blood the note was also the same but the street was inkster ave. The question was (-63)+(+26)+(+48)=.The question was a little bit harder but I was able to solve it the answer is +11 so I called in a team, notified the department of a serial killer and sped off to 11 inkster ave.
When I got there I noticed that this was the first killing in a house so I kicked down the door but luckily there was only one person and once again there was a note and a question but the note said " congratulations Mr.Goodwin you've made it quite far but will you be able to catch me? the next clue will be on wall st." The question is (-44)+(+54)+(+1564). So I called the team and headed out to 1574 wall st. but soon I would catch the killer.

Probabilty Scribe for October 15
Today we did a probability asignment from the textbook so here are the first question in its 2 parts.
3. A spinner has 2 congruent sectors couloured blue and green. The pointer is spun once, and a coin is tossed.
Find the probability of each event: a) blue and tails. First you find the TPO which is 2x2 which is 4 so the TPO is 4 so if you spin blue and flip tails its 1 FO so the percent is 25%.
b) blue or green and heads. we already know the TPO is 4 so we just have to figure out the FO blue and heads is 1 and green and heads is one so there are 2 favorable outcomes so as a percent its 50%.
Sorry for the lack of pictures my next scribe will be much better.
