Skills

We are doing a new unit on Fractions!
For our assignment, we must explain in 2 different ways for 2 pairs of fractions. We have to show if there are the same, bigger, or smaller. The first fractions are two thirds and four sixths.
Two thirds and four sixths are actually the same. If you simplified four sixths it would equal two thirds, they are equivalent fractions. If you punched them into your calculator you would get 0.6666667 repeating for them both. But they are different in a way, for example if you said you had to run two thirds of a kilometer but I said you had to run four sixths of a kilometer. I would be saying the same thing but I would be more precise, more accurate.

Okay, our last fractions are one eighth and one fourth. Which one is bigger, smaller, or equal?

One fourth is bigger! To prove this we can draw a picture showing the size or in this way. For example you are ordering a pizza from Pizza Hut and you got two pizzas of the small size, shape, toppings, THERE THE SAME IN EVERY WAY. Okay, the first pizza is cut up into eighths and the second one is cut into fourths. Now you can choose what pizza you what, would you want one fourths of a pizza or one eighths of one. I hoped you picked one fourths of one because its bigger unless your like me and your not hungry.

Skills Homework!

This is a homework for Skills, Mr.Herbeck told us to find the difference between to fractions. There are 2 questions and I'll show you which one is bigger and why is it bigger.
They are 2/3 or 4/6
and 1/8 or 1/4

Lets start with 2/3 or 4/6.
Which one is Bigger?
Picture

Hmm....Their both the same. But which would you rather say? 4/6 or 2/3?
I think you would rather say 4/6 because it is more accurate. Why? because if you change the fraction into the decimal. 2/3 would be 0.666667 and 4/6 would be 0.66666667.
Wow its still the same? Well I think you should say 4/6 because its really accurate and most people will say 4/6 instead of 2/3. I bet you 100%!

On to the last one. which is 1/8 and 1/4
Picture:

Hmm..1/4 is bigger than 1/8? why is that? It's because the Bottom number is the whole number and the top number is the prices, and so pretend its a pizza? What would you rather it to yourself? 1/8 or 1/4?
You would pick 1/4 because it is bigger than 1/8!!

Hey Everyone, Hopefully this helps out a bit!!

Challenge!!!

Hey Everyone! I'm not sure if Mr. H want's me to write here, {please let me know if this is bad haha} but my name is Chantelle and I am going to the U of Regina and have been invited to your Blog!!!

I came across a question in one of my math classes that I feel will be right up your alley with Pythagorean Theorem! So here is a little challenge for you!

The question is: The perimeter of an isosceles triangle {2 sides are equal and the two angles at the base are equal} ABC with AB=BC is 128 inches. The altitude {height of the triangle which is perpendicular (90 degree angle) to the base ( and in the case of an isosceles triangle, hits at the midpoint of the base)} BD is 48 inches. What is the area of the triangle??

So, you will need a couple formulas other than just pythagorus. However, I think you can do it!
This is from my Math 308 class, which is a 4th year math class!!!

Good Luck!!

Today in class Mr. Harbeck talked with us about perfect squares. He showed us how to take two or more perfect squares and turn it into one perfect square. Some homework was assigned to us and the homework is we have to make perfect squares rangeing from squares numbering from 1-16. Here is something that will help

Today in class we work on squares. And we copied down a times table that was 12x12.It looked something like this.

For homework we had to high light or colour the equal squares.But once we finished that it looked like this.

Also in class we had to answer the following:
1x1=1 16x16=
2x2=4 17x17=
3x3=9 18x18=
4x4=16 19x19=
5x5=25 20x20=
6x6=36 21x21=
7x7= 22x22=
8x8= 23x23=
8x9= 24x24=
10x10= 25x25=
11x11= 26x26=
12x12=144 27x27
13x13= 28x28
14x14= 29x29
15x15= 30x30=
Sorry it wasnt finished =(

Today was our video project day, we were supposed to prove the Pythagoras theorem. The 6 and 8 are the legs and the hypotenuse is 10 of the whole right angle triangle,below is a video of the proof.

The video below you is how to do the equation and how it works.

This video is the proof of the equation and how it all works together.

For the next scribe i choose Liem if he already did one then kevin
