Today in math class were givin a new unit called integers. We will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide integers. But for now we are adding integers. In class we were given 100 adding integers questions. We used number lines, algebra tiles(pictoral), and money.

Algerbra Tiles(Pictoral)

Here is an example of a adding integers question using a algerbra tiles:

Number Lines
A number line can be used to do addition by moving left or right on this number line. We postion ourselves on the first integer given in the question and the next integer tells us whether we travel left or right on a number line. A positve(+) integer means we move right on a number line. A negitive(-) integer means we move left on a number line.
Here is an example of an adding integer question using a number line:

Using Money
Positive Integer means we have money
eg. (+5) We have \$5

Negitive Integers means we owe money
eg. (-9) We owe \$9

Here are a few of the questions we had to do:

(+4) + (+3) =+7
Have 4 and have 3=+7

(-4) + (-5) =-9
Owe 4 and owe 5= -9

(+2) + (-4) = -2
Have 2 and owe 4= -2

(-5) + (+3)= -2
Owe 5 and have 2= -2

(-6) + (+3)= -3
Owe 6 and have 3= -3

Brakets
(+6) + (-5)= +1 Mr. Harbeck says if we use brakets we are using training wheels

Now without training wheels
6 -5= 1
